A friend of mine, Linda Anderson, owner of coaching firm Getting Clear, (and pictured here) (and very deserving of this recognition, mind you) just sent me an email link to an article/interview on Philly.Com naming her “Woman of the Week.” She had also CC’d the email to her large network of professional associates and friends. After congratulating her, I couldn’t help but point out the smart marketing strategy of the Woman of the Week feature by writer Marilyn Russell.

Think about it: Philly.com and Marilyn Russell are able to create an interactive experience by getting readers to nominate their picks for deserving professional women. They use an interview format, which provides a quick way to generate good content to post. And the women chosen and featured will send out the link to their network of other business women, clients, prospects, etc., in effect producing a weekly emailing that brings new traffic and readers. They will undoubtedly create a link to the article from their websites, which helps build search engine ranking and ongoing traffic for Philly.Com. (Not to mention being featured on the Franchisor Marketing website!) Repeated weekly, this could provide some real marketing rewards and heaps of goodwill.

Could you adapt the “Woman of the Week” idea to provide franchisees, managers, employees, vendors, and or customers with well-deserved recognition for them… and web-traffic, links and increased recognition for you? What can be better than having others market for you? What can be better than looking gracious for recognizing others, while reaping hidden marketing benefits?

So I hereby award Marilyn Russell and Philly.Com with Franchisor Marketing’s new “Idea Worth Stealing of the Week” award. I shall now email my congratulations and web link to the talented Ms. Russell, and shall reap the benefit of knowing that at least she, and Linda, will read Franchisor Marketing this week. SPK

Thanks for the recognition…I’d like to thank God, my family, and most of all my husband, who allows me to use our bedroom as both bedtime and my office. Believe me, the two don’t always play well together.

    Thanks,

    Marilyn
